It is only relatively recently that Myanmar<\/strong> opened its doors to the outside world. For decades, the former Burma was virtually inaccessible, a mysterious country with a strong, closed identity. The fog of isolation slowly lifts, and what emerges is surprising and fascinating. You will experience it: the people are open-minded, curious and hospitable. They will proudly take you on a journey through their special country.<\/p>\n Myanmar has over a hundred different ethnic groups, each with its own language. You will gradually become acquainted with various cultures, crafts and traditional costumes. This may be at a folkloric festival, but authentically dressed people are everywhere. You are here in a land of old, but very much alive traditions.<\/p>\n The vast majority of Myanmar’s people are connected by Buddhism. Many, many thousands of monasteries, pagodas and stupas<\/strong> seem to be scattered over the landscape. There are more than 2,000 pagodas in Bagan<\/strong> alone. Some are beautifully decorated with statues and paintings, and are richly covered with gold. When lit by the sun, the sparkle attracts attention from a great distance.<\/p>\n During your journey, very different landscapes pass by. Wide and serene are the panoramas around Inle Lake<\/strong> and the Irrawaddy<\/strong> River, where life takes place on and around the water. How different is the pristine wilderness around Putao<\/strong> ! Dense forests, cold winds, snowy peaks, the white water that comes from the Eastern Himalayas<\/strong> on the horizon. Finally, the other extreme: the beautiful beaches of Ngapali<\/strong> on the Bay of Bengal<\/strong> .
