The island of Sardinia<\/strong> has a turbulent history and has been in the hands of many seafaring peoples. The mixture of Italian, Spanish, North African and Eastern influences has created its own cuisine and it has also produced its own language. Sardinian is seen as an Italian language, but on the mainland one cannot understand it. Along the coast are many beautiful bays, jagged rock formations, mysterious caves and elongated white sand beaches. It is claimed that here are the most beautiful bays with the bluest seawater in Europe. Inland, the landscape changes to a low mountain range with grasslands, wild thyme, dwarf oaks and cactus figs.
