Carmelo is idyllically located in the heart of one of Uruguay<\/a>‘s best wine regions and not far from Colonia del Sacramento.<\/a> It is located on the banks of the R\u00edo de la Plata<\/strong> and has some beautiful beaches. The charming cobbled streets of the town are a pleasure to explore. There are a few colonial houses, interesting museums, open-air restaurants and excellent wineries to discover. Wine production in the region is small-scale and often run by a family, which adds to carmelo’s charm.
