It is the starting point of the famous Tren a las Nubes. The Train to the Clouds is so named because this train route goes up considerably and there are often clouds on the section of bridges and slopes over which the train passes. Did you know that the route can also be followed by car?

The region around the city offers both natural beauty and authentic culture. North of Salta, the Salinas Grandes salt flats lie in a desolate landscape, fantastic décor, and the spectacular Humahuaca Gorge with still very authentic Indian settlements. The jagged mountains along the route constantly change colour, from cream-white to deep red.

A beautiful, varied journey south through the Quebrada de las Conchas valley takes you into the wine region around Cafayate known for its white Torrontès wine. Here you really get the taste of Argentine life; Burgundy life at the foot of the Andes!
