Opposite Pemba is the <strong>Quirimbas Archipelago<\/strong>, a dozen tropical islands with endless beaches and coral reefs. The most famous islands are<strong> Ibo Island, Quil\u00e1lea and Matemo.<\/strong> \u00a0 One of the islands is <strong>Medjumbe Island,<\/strong> located near the world famous <strong>St. Lazarus Banks<\/strong>, one of the world&#8217;s most beautiful dive sites. <strong>Ibo island <\/strong>has a rich history. In the past Arabs drove here trade and the island was an important Portuguese slave market and trading post.
