Granada will celebrate an important milestone in 2024: the 500th anniversary of the founding of the city by Spanish conqueror Francisco Hernández de Córdoba. Amid local tribal wars and nestled between the indigenous settlement of Xalteva, shark-infested Lake Nicaragua and the mysterious Mombacho volcano, Granada was established as a strategic and vibrant center of commerce and culture.
To commemorate its 500th anniversary, the city of Granada is organizing a series of events during the year 2024 with the theme “History, Culture and Tradition. The activities are designed to honor the city’s rich historical heritage and culture.
